Academics

Academic expectations are high at Sacred Heart Academy. Each student must fulfill all New York State Regents requirements for graduation. The curriculum of more than 100 courses is designed to prepare students for college-level programs. High-level courses include Advanced Placement and college-credit courses, which are available in English, social studies, science, mathematics, foreign languages and fine arts. For students who qualify, honors level courses are available in most academic disciplines.  Study centers in all disciplines are open during the school day.  All students are welcome!  As a testament to our high academic standards, our school has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

Individual attention from an extraordinary faculty

The structure of our school supports a focus on the individual student. Small class sizes and an intimate student-teacher ratio of 15:1 guarantee extensive personal attention to each student. Each academic discipline has a department center where enrichment materials are available and where students have the opportunity to work collaboratively. Students are encouraged to seek extra help from faculty members in the department centers. Our extraordinarily dedicated teachers also freely offer their time to help students before and after school.

Sacred Heart faculty members are New York State-certified in their subject areas; several hold certifications in multiple areas. A variety of teaching and assessment methods are used throughout the curriculum to measure students' mastery of styles of learning.

Extensive learning resources

Sacred Heart students' academic efforts are supported with state-of-the-art learning resources. Each classroom is equipped with 3M Interactive Boards, which enable the presentation of digital content during lessons. Our Library serves as a reference/research center designed primarily for serious study and independent work. Our fully equipped Electronic Information Center provides additional opportunities for research via the World Wide Web. The goal of the library media program is to ensure that students and teachers are effective users of ideas and information.

In addition, the Sacred Heart Music Room is a fully equipped teaching and laboratory environment with separate practice rooms, instruments and computers. Students also make full use of our science labs, fine arts studio, and Internet access throughout the building.
